Internet Pioneer Peeks Into the Future

Tune into this thought-provoking conversation with Vint Cerf—Chief Internet Evangelist for Google and a regular guest on the podcast. Widely known as 'a father of the internet' Vint, with Bob Kahn, designed TCP/IP and the basic architecture of the Internet. Vint is one of the leading architects of today's information-driven infrastructure. As Chief Internet Evangelist for Google, he is responsible for identifying new enabling technologies and applications on the Internet and other platforms for the company. Few people, if any, are more tapped into the future of technology than Vint Cerf.

In 1997, President Clinton recognized Vint and Bob Kahn's work with the U.S. National Medal of Technology. In 2005, Vint and Bob received the highest civilian honor bestowed in the U.S., the Presidential Medal of Freedom. It recognizes the fact that their work on the software code used to transmit data across the Internet has put them "at the forefront of a digital revolution that has transformed global commerce, communication, and entertainment."

As you've probably guessed, Vint has not rested on his laurels. Since then he has served in a series of important leadership positions both in industry and government (DARPA). Since 2000, Vint has served as chairman of the board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and has been a Visiting Scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory since 1998, where he was busy developing the latest "Interstellar" version of TCP/IP.

	Roger, I just listened to your conversation with Vint Cerf on Biz Tech Review under the Technology Zone of this site. I found his description of GeoLocated Data intriguing. I know I'm using it with my GPS in my car to find local shops, dining spots and etc. I find it interesting to hear him expand on what you might be able to do with this geographically indexed information. In your mind what companies, beside Google, might stand to gain on this kind of data? I see many upsides, and also downsides to the misuse of such information and privacy issues related and was glad to hear those issues covered in your conversation. Registered
