Our strategy is to lower the learning curve for new users. Second Life is a powerful platform for innovation, collaboration and creativity. We want it to be easily accessible by more people. So, yes, getting more businesses into SL is definitely part of our strategy.

There are over 1,300 different organizations (companies, universities, not for profits, government institutions, etc.) who are active in Second Life. Many of them are pioneering new virtual world experiences that build on what makes Second Life powerful -- your virtual identity, a persistent place where you can meet and connect and an enormous virtual goods marketplace. Organizations are using those things to craft compelling Second Life experiences -- collaborating on new products, doing complex simulations, training a distributed workforce to name a few. Here is an excellent case study of a company that does mixed reality events leveraging Second Life.

There are many blogs that follow Second Life and people are frequently tweeting about #SecondLife. One thing you can do is search around and aggregate your own community. Also, we a network of partners who do work for businesses in Second Life. We call them Solution Providers. They usually have their fingers on the "business" pulse of Second Life. You can find them here: http://solutionproviders.secondlife.com/

Fascinating interview, Mark. You mentioned near the end of part 1 that Second Life is about the size of Rhode Island and that you can't keep tabs on everything that goes on within, like the Governor of RI doesn't know all that happens in the state. But, in fact, a Governor does have to stay abreast of the happenings in his/her state. Are there any mechanism analogous to the news media within Second Life that allows you -- or anyone else, for that matter -- to stay informed about what's going on of significant general interest? Has anything like news gathering developed organically within the community? With "1,300 different organizations (companies, universities, not for profits, government institutions, etc.)" active in Second Life, many of which are "pioneering new virtual world experiences," seems like it would be extremely productive to keep tabs on things.
