Will Windows 7 for netbooks sell more hardware? 1 Year, 1 Month ago Karma: 4
In a recent article titled, "Where, and How, Netbooks Can Boost the Business" Judy Mottl reports:

QUOTE:
Yet experts don't recommend that tech leaders just rush out and grab a few. Just like any technology decision, netbooks require research, evaluation and return-on-investment investigation.

Does the decision on purchasing a netbook become easier knowing that an opitmized netbook version of Windows 7 is going to be available?

It will certainly be interesting to see how Windows 7 will effect sales and interest in netbooks. I do agree with Judy's assessment that the applications for netbooks can be limiting by their processor power and form factor. I certainly could not work on one for more than 2 hours.

I find it interesting that Sony has decided to launch its new netbook with the Windows XP operating system preinstalled. The atom based device will have a high resolution screen (1,366-by-768 pixels, compared with the 1,024-by-600-pixel) price at USD $629.00.

I certainly hope the machine is capable of running Windows 7 as the features found in the new OS are far ahead of XP.

To me, personally, it doesn't matter. And in fact I'd prefer a netbook with XP.

Sorry, I love XP and it does everything I need it to do. I don't care how optimized Windows 7 is, I'm willing to bet XP will still perform better on the reduced specs of a netbook.

Anyhow -- performance issues aside -- Windows 7 doesn't change my opinion of netbooks at all.
