The E-Waste Survey
This year, some 70 million computers will be sold in the U.S. But what will happen when businesses and people are done using them? According to the Electronics TakeBack Coalition, a national non-profit promoting responsible recycling and green design of electronics, only about 15% of discarded electronics (which contain harmful materials such as lead and mercury) are recycled. The rest winds up in landfills and incinerators, potentially polluting the environment. Atefeh (Atti) Riazi, CIO at Ogilvy & Mather, and other IT professionals have been working hard to raise awareness of the e-waste problem. Now, the E-Waste Taskforce, of which the CIOZone is a member, is conducting a survey of IT professionals to get a better handle on what's happening with electronic waste disposal. Please take a couple of minutes to fill out the survey. Only aggregate numbers will be used. No personal information will be posted.
