From the blog comments: Oracle Embraces Open Source R Language
Saturday, Feb 11 2012 01:02:31 AM
It\'s good to see Oracle finally catch up with its open source competitor, PostgreSQL, which has had this capability since 2003 or so.
I saw an announcement from Oracle about an R connector about two years ago in March 2010 I think -- did it really take that long to make it into a release?

It has taken several years, but the economics of cloud computing are now low lying fruit for CIOs to embrace. Any doubts they had about moving at least some corporate data to an outside cloud storage provider seems to have gone away in the last quarter or two.

In the end it all boils down to communication. If the Project manager communicates properly with the team, and the team can communicate with each other, then people know what to do, and how to solve problems. We communicate via our project management software (Clarizen), since we are not all working from the same office (or indeed, the same country!)

Interesting post. A survey last fall by the Ponemon Institute, a consultancy, found that the number of reported data breaches among healthcare organizations increased by about a third compared to the previous year. According to a story by David Raths in Healthcare Informatics, a trade publication, the top cause of the data breaches was lost or stolen computing devices, and unsecured mobile devices was a particular problem area.
Commenting on the report\'s finding, CEO and founder Larry Ponemon, pointed to three reasons why healthcare organizations have experienced a big increase, said Raths: greater regulatory requirements for disclosure; the shift from paper to electronic introduces some chaos during the transition, which leads to data leakage; and cybercriminals are targeting patient data more frequently.

This discussion seems to keep coming back to life, now it is stimulated by the ongoing shift in cloud computing.
When CIOs ask for more money, CFOs are asking for more justification. At best, such a relationship is organizationally dysfunctional; at worst, it is an institutionalized competitive disadvantage.
