Research firm Yankee Group this week issued its 2010 predictions for the communications market, which the company says will be ripe with opportunity for vendors that can adapt and innovate to take advantage of early signs of economic recovery.

In the report, senior analysts Christopher Collins and Jon Paisner state that as the driving force in 2009 was the economy, so it will be again in 2010. Most consumers say they will spend less on “core connectivity” services next year, and the vast majority of businesses say the recession has had at least some affect on their technology spending. The build-out of broadband networks has also stalled.

However, the report predicts that 2010 will bring “slightly more certain economic conditions,” although the authors concede that recognizing opportunity amid the doom and gloom can be tricky.

Following are 11 predictions from the Yankee Group analysts.
