Program Description:
Last year, on Earth Day 2008, CIOZone launched the Green Pledge in cooperation with the New York Metro Chapter of the Society of Information Management (SIM).
We asked CIOZone members and the general IT community to make a public pledge to reduce waste and increase energy efficiency over the next 12 months.
With the economy in trouble, efforts to reduce electronic waste and energy consumption may have been delayed or pushed aside as companies focus on financial pressures. That is why now, more than ever, it is important the IT community remains diligent in ensuring that the progress made over the last year is sustained and built upon.
As Atti Riazi, CIO at international marketing and advertising company Ogilvy & Mather states: “An average American emits about 16 metric tons of CO2 per year . . . To sustain living on the Earth we need to drop to two metric tons. Can we make a commitment both on a personal and business level to make this happen?”
Wednesday, April 22, marks Earth Day 2009. CIOZone would once again like to support the movement by asking our members to use the Green Pledge Forum to state their personal and corporate goals for the coming year to reduce electronic waste and conserve energy.
More importantly, we would like the forum to be a place where members can share ideas and experiences on how to implement Green plans at the office and at home.
Perhaps you were able to reduce energy consumption by implementing virtualization technologies in the data center, or challenged your colleagues to go a week without printing paper, or simply walked to work one day a week.
Simply go to the Green Pledge Forum and tell us your stories, ideas and personal pledges, so that we can all do our part in making sure the IT community supports and leads in achieving the goals of Earth Day.
Sincerely,
Mel Duvall
