Webcast: Going Green Through Technology Complexity Reduction
Vijay Sankaran
Director IT Infrastructure Operations, Ford Motor Company
Most IT managers and executives think about point solutions when they think about "Going Green". Ideas that come to mind include virtualization, rack based cooling, data center consolidation, efficient chips etc... However, the thing that really kills efficiency in the data center and pollutes is technology complexity. Whether it is the number of servers you have on the floor, the number of storage frames that have your data, the number of mainframes globally, the number of flavors of UNIX you manage, or your routing and switching fabric, the total complexity of this system is what adversely compromises "going green" While by implementing point solutions, you may chip away at the iceberg; only through a fundamental simplification of your infrastructure can you truly "Go Green". Join me for this session on how by reducing the complexity of a technology ecosystem will help your organization "Go Green" and achieve significant operational benefits.

Webcast: Qualcomm's Energy & Cost Savings Through Virtualization
Norm Fjeldheim
Senior Vice President & Chief Information Officer, Qualcomm
Qualcomm's rollout of a virtual computing infrastructure has yielded many savings, including reductions in capital hardware, floor space, power consumption, and administrative resource costs. Starting in 2003, Qualcomm IT began deploying Windows-based server instances using ESX VMware. Soon after, deployment of Linux-based instances also using ESX VMware began. In recent years, we also successfully began virtualizing UNIX / Solaris systems using SUN/Solaris Zones.
Although initial virtual-server deployments were for non-production systems, the reliability, rapid turn-around time of new requests, and costs savings generated interest across the enterprise. Today, our current Windows and Linux deployment model includes Virtual first, then physical if necessary and justified.

Webcast: Enabling The Agile Business While Keeping The System Secure
Carlos Solari
VP Security Solutions, Alcatel-Lucent
The CIO must balance between competing interests-implementing IT systems that enables the new business functions and security. These IT systems operate outside the domain of CIO control (the IT LAN); in the service provider space (fixed and wireless), and the customer's computer. Powerful business trends-pushing customer transactions online (reducing physical presence), integrating partner business processes through network connectivity, and using Internet web applications tips the balance towards a higher security risk. Security gets a whole lot tougher when it is outside the zone of control. So what to do? Let's start by recognizing the need for a shared security governance relationship with your new IT partner-the service provider for both fixed and wireless broadband. To do this we need to be armed with a common security language-a way that we can share a metric that says "I trust your services". What is this metric?

Webcast: Key Decisions When Adopting Virtualization
Tony Iams
Vice President & Senior Analyst, System Software Research, Ideas International Inc.
Virtualization is generating genuine excitement across the IT industry. As it becomes a standard part of IT infrastructures, virtualization could redefine how datacenters are configured and maintained over the long term. As a result, some of the decisions that organizations make now as they start to deploy virtual infrastructure will have a long-term impact. This session will review what CIOs need to know about deployment of virtualization, showing what the basic trends driving its adoption are; what business benefits have materialized from its deployment; how the current capabilities of server virtualization technology compare on x86 vs. other platforms; and where organizations should tread carefully as they introduce virtualization.
