Lately, Internet giants Facebook and Google have been in a perverse competition of sorts to see who can generate more negative publicity and regulatory attention from their seeming inattention to the privacy of their users.

Who's winning? Until Google's admission that it has been accidentally recording Wi-Fi payload data as part of its Street View service, the money was on Facebook, which has alienated just about everyone and drawn nearly as much U.S. legislative attention as Goldman Sachs.

Here's a rundown of the recent activity that has lead many reasonable observers to suggest neither Google nor Facebook are all that concerned with privacy.
