The AT&T data breach that exposed the e-mail addresses of 114,000 iPad 3G users has attracted the attention of critics, security experts, and even the FBI.
AT&T was informed of the breach by a customer June 7, although the news didn't become public until Gawker.com broke the story two days later. Since then, AT&T has accused the security firm, Goatse, that exposed the vulnerability and accessed the e-mail addresses of malicious behavior, while Goatse is saying AT&T is being dishonest and downplaying the severity of the vulnerability. Meanwhile, the FBI has opened an official investigation into the breach to determine if there has been criminal activity.
