As smartphone sales skyrocket, and application stores like Apple's deliver more and more software to those devices, there is no question that mobile applications represent a market with huge potential in the very near term.
With that in mind, research firm Gartner has ranked the ten types of mobile applications it thinks will see the most demand in 2012. The categories follow in the order in which they were ranked.
