UAL Corp., the holding company for United Airlines, announced that it has hired Douglas Register to take on the newly created role of vice president of service delivery and engineering.

Under that role Register will be responsible for the day-to-day information technology services of the airline and will also have responsibility for the engineering and data center operations. Register will report to United chief information officer Keith Halbert.

"This new role is critical to continuing to deliver quality service to our customers, while implementing new products and infrastructure," Halbert said in a statement. "Doug's background and experience in various industries, including airlines, is a great fit for our team."

Register joins United from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida where he was vice president of IT service delivery. He has a 33-year career in information technology, including a three-year role as vice president of systems operations for Delta Technology, a wholly owned subsidiary of Delta Air Lines.

Register assumes his position with United on March 31, 2008.
