TJX Overcomes Network Breach, Profit Rises

With all the news about data breaches over the past year, it's no surprise that network data security is the top network-related concern of information technology professionals, according to a just-released survey conducted by the Computing Technology Industry Association.

The IT industry association, which goes by the name CompTIA, said that almost one-third of the 934 IT workers who responded to its survey said securing communications lines and data is their main networking challenge.

"Organizations continue to invest more resources in securing applications, data and networks, and with good reason," said Todd Thibodeaux, CompTIA's president and chief executive officer, in a prepared statement. "Every security breach has the potential to materially impact the business, through lower employee productivity, lost revenue, higher costs, negative publicity, or loss of customer confidence. It's incumbent on all organizations, regardless of size or industry, to implement a multi-layered approach to security that leverages both technology and education."

Other top issue included:

Human error by network users, which was the second biggest concern.

Data storage and the ability to attract and retain quality staff was listed as third.

Having current network technology was fourth.

And having reliable and secure wireless access with the fifth major concern.
