Salesforce.com Loses Top Executives in Shakeup; Lufthansa Airlines Names CIO

Salesforce.com, a leading provider of on-demand sales automation software, has had a shakeup in its management suite.

The company said in regulatory filings that its president and chief strategy officer, Steve Cakebread, has left the company to "pursue other professional opportunities." Cakebread has been with the San Francisco-headquartered company since 2002.

In addition to the loss of Cakebread, the New York Times reported that Gary Hanna, executive vice president of enterprise sales, and Dave Orrico, another sales executive, are no longer at the company.

Analysts are keeping a close eye on Salesforce as companies battle through the recession. It is not clear whether the company, which offers hosted software or software as a service (SaaS) over the Internet as opposed to companies that sell software installed internally, will benefit from the downturn or be negatively affected.

In the third quarter, reported in November, Salesforce posted revenue of $277 million, up 43%. It had a profit of $10.1 million, compared to a profit of $6.5 million for the same period a year earlier. The company has forecasted sales of $277 million for the fourth quarter which would represent a 43% increase over the year earlier.

Lufthansa Airlines Names Klingenberg CIO

German airline Lufthansa has named Christoph Klingenberg to the role of CIO and head of information management. The 48-year-old has been tasked with overseeing the implementation of IT as well as ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of systems.

Klingenberg previously was the senior vice president of non-hub services since 2005, responsible for the planning and operation of all Lufthansa domestic and European direct flights not routed through the company's Frankfurt and Munich hubs.

In his new role Klingenberg will report directly to Holger Hatty, the company's executive vice president of strategy IT and purchasing. He succeeds Christoph Ganswindt, who has accepted a role at Deutsche Telekom.

Four Rivers Software Lures Healthcare IT Veteran

"I'm excited to be joining Four Rivers Software," Skirble said in a statement. "My entire career has been spent bringing information technology and best of breed software to customers. I hope this salesforce.com shakeup isn't an indication of future cuts to come at the company. While a forecast of 43% in sales increase over the prior year is great there will be negative consequences for them on wall street if they aren't able to meet expectations.
