The Society for Information Management (SIM), a leading organization of IT professionals, has named its new executive board.
Earlier this month SIM announced that Peter Whatnell, chief information officer of Sunoco, was elected President and leader of the 2009 board of directors. SIM takes over the role from Robert Keefe, CIO of Mueller Water Products.
"Over the years, SIM has been an integral resource for my growth, as well as that of my organization," Whatnell said in taking over the helm. "My fellow members have provided me with an array of best practices and industry insights that I've been able to immediately leverage within my business."
Whatnell joined Sunoco as CIO in 2001, having previously spent 17 years with Texaco, including head of the oil and gas company's European IT operations. He has been a member of SIM for seven years.
Supporting Whatnell on the board are the following:
Robert Keefe, CIO Mueller Water Products; Patricia Coffey, vice president with Allstate Insurance Company, Charles Anderson, president of Solution Enterprises, Patricia Randall, account director Kforce Professional Staffing; Jim Knight, global CIO Chubb & Son; Eric Gorham, director of IT REJIS Commission; Andrew Jackson, president of BravoTECH; Judy Arteche-Carr, managing director Arteche Global Group; Caren Shiozaki, CIO Thornburg Mortgage; Ed Trainor, CIO Amtrak; Michael Pellegrino, vice president of IT for Fujifilm Holdings America; Jeanne Ross, director and principal research scientist for the MIT Sloan Center for Information Systems Research; Michael Jones, retired CIO; and Rick Pride, principal and chief operating officer for Impact IT.
Citigroup Suffers Loss of High-Profile CIO
Just as it appeared to be getting back on its feet, beleaguered Citigroup has lost a high-profile CIO who had been brought in barely eight months ago.
Marty Lippert, who was hired away from Royal Bank of Canada, has left Citigroup to return to Canada for personal reasons, according to an internal memo. Lippert was hired in July and just four months later was promoted to the role of Chief Operations and Technology Officer.
He also helped lure away Anita Sands from RBC to take on the role of Managing Director and Head of Transformation Management.
Lippert's departure is bad timing for Citigroup. It lost some $28 billion in 2008, one of the largest losses in corporate history, and has seen its share price fall from $55 in 2006 to less than a dollar earlier this month before recovering somewhat on positive news.
