IBM To Build Largest "Green" Data Center in Canada
IBM has signed an agreement to build what is believed to be the largest "green" data center yet to be constructed in Canada.
The data center, which will be built in Kelowna, British Columbia, will be 150,000 square feet and cost $75 million to construct. The new facility, called gigaCENTER Services, is being developed using IBM's modular approach and includes power and cooling capabilities to support high-density blade servers and mainframes. The center is being built in partnership with RackForce, a hosting company based in Kelowna.
"We are building a data center with IBM in a safe and secure location to respond to growing issues about natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods," RackForce Chief Executive Tim Dufour, said in announcing the project. "This center will support the latest technologies using 'green' hydro-generated power and the most efficient environmentally friendly design."
The center will be built over three years, with the first phase scheduled to open in December 2008.
Wynn Las Vegas Chooses Rainmaker Software
Resort and casino operator Wynn Las Vegas says it has implemented software from The Rainmaker Group to improve its revenue management capabilities.
The Rainmaker software, called the Revolution Product Suite, uses mathematical modeling formulas to forecast demand for gaming properties and hotel groups. Using those forecasts, the properties can adjust pricing or promotions to increase revenues.
According to Rainmaker, its software is also being used by such resort and casino operators as Trump Entertainment, Boyd Gaming, MGM Mirage and Harrah's.
