In the Women in IT group, CIOZone member Ellen Pearlman poses the question, are women less optimistic than men or simply more realistic? Read the post and join the group.

The 2008 L.E.K. Consumer Sentiment Study asked respondents if they believed their families' financial situations would improve or grow worse during the next twelve months.

Would it surprise you to know that 46.1% of men who believed their situations would change said they thought they'd be better off, compared to 28.9% of women. What is it about a woman that makes her less optimistic or is it more realistic than a man?

I guess I'm inclined to think the latter is true. Woman, I believe, are more likely to be practical when they size up their situations and less likely to believe the impossible will come true. Men are more likely to embellish their stories and then believe them after they are told.

How are you feeling about the economy? Do you think it will turn around in 2009 or do you think it will take longer for a bounce back?
