The New York Times Co. announced that it has hired Joseph Seibert, the former chief operating officer of apparel company Marc Ecko Enterprises, as its new CIO. Seibert will report to chief financial officer James Follo in the position.

He was the CIO at GSI Commerce from 2003 to 2005 and held a variety of management positions at CBS and Viacom, including CIO.

While at Viacom, he ran an IT department with some 1,200 employees.

"He is a proven leader with extensive experience in operations and every area of information technology, including corporate infrastructure and the Internet," said Follo in announcing the hiring.
