Medica Signs On GE Unit CTO


Medica, a health insurance provider headquartered in Minnetonka, Minn., has tapped a General Electric unit to fill its chief technology officer role. The company announced it has hired George Steinhoff as its CTO, with overall responsibility for developing and implementing Medica's strategic information technology initiatives.


Steinhoff comes to Medica from GE-WMC Mortgage, based in Burbank, Calif., where he served as a senior VP and CTO. He brings more than 30 years experience to his new role, including managing a staff of more than 300 IT professionals at health insurer WellPoint.

Lawson Software Names Bickel CIO


Lawson Software, which specializes in enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, has hired Craig Bickel as its new CIO. Bickel, who officially joins Lawson on June 2, was a director at AlixPartners, a $500 million management consulting firm that specializes in corporate turnarounds.


At St. Paul, Minn.-based Lawson, Bickel will oversee the company's global IT organization and be responsible for developing and managing Lawson's technology strategy. In addition to AlixPartners, Bickel previously served as CIO for Cabot Corp., a specialty chemical manufacturer based in Boston.


Treasury's FinCen Unit Gets New CIO


The Treasury Department unit that tracks the flow of suspicious money through financial, investment and commodities institutions has a new CIO.

Amy Taylor, the current director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network's (FinCEN) technology solutions and services division, has been appointed the agency's CIO. She takes over from Edward Dorris who left in February. Taylor has been serving as acting CIO since his departure.


As FinCEN's CIO, Taylor's will be responsible for developing an information technology strategy to aid FinCEN's efforts to combat money laundering and terrorist financing. "Our efforts to protect the financial system will be greatly assisted by her talents as she leads and continues to build on FinCEN's efforts to leverage technology to facilitate cost-efficient filing by the industry," FinCEN Director James Freis said in announcing her appointment.
