Gordon Jones Aims to Rescue Levi's ERP Project

San Francisco-based denim jeans maker Levis Strauss has hired veteran chief information officer Gordon Jones as a consultant, in part to help the company rescue an enterprise resource planning project gone awry.

The company revealed earlier this month that it had encountered difficulties with a global implementation of SAP. At one point, the company was forced to turn the system off and postpone shipments for a week.

Company spokesman Jeff Beckman declined to provide further details on the reason behind the difficulties with the SAP implementation, but he did confirm Levi's has hired Jones as a consultant. Jones is a former CIO with Toys "R" Us, Franklin Templeton and Novell.

Beckman says former Levi's CIO David Bergen left the company early in the year, and that a search for a permanent CIO is now underway.

More information on Levi's ERP difficulties can be found here.

Barclaycard Names Phillip Steitz to CIO

Veteran chief information officer Phillip Steitz has been named CIO for Barclaycard US, the credit card business of British bank Barclays Plc.

Steitz joins Barclaycard from American Express, where he served as senior vice president and chief technology officer. He previously held senior IT positions at Intelligroup, Entersoft Systems (now BEA Systems), and Financial Dynamics.

In his new role, Steitz will be responsible for enterprisewide technology strategy, systems selection and management, application development, and Web services. He will report to chief operating officer Joe Purzycki and serve on the Barclaycard US executive committee. Barclaycard US is headquartered in Wilmington, Del., and employs more than 1,200.

Vision Specialist HVHC Gives CIO Expanded Role

Pittsburgh-based HVHC, a company that specializes in managed vision care programs for corporations, has given Michael Thibdeau an expanded role as CIO.

Thibdeau has been the CIO of Davis Vision since 1997. Davis Vision, which is based in Plainview, N.Y., offers managed vision care programs to some 35 million members. Starting in 2005, HVHC went on a buying spree, acquiring Davis Vision, Viva International Group, a glasses designer, and Eye Care Centers of America, which operates a 500-store optical retail chain.

In his new role, Thibdeau has been promoted to serve as CIO for all of the company's operations.
