Kaiser Completes Electronic Record Initiative
Kaiser Permanente said this week that it had completed an initiative to provide doctors and health care workers with access to the electronic outpatient healthcare records of all of its 8.7 million members in nine states and the District of Columbia.
According to the company, the Kaiser HealthConnect database is the world's largest privately-funded electronic outpatient health record. It can now be accessed by 13,000 physicians associated with the Kaiser network in some 420 locations. The HealthConnect initiative began in April of 2004 in Hawaii and concluded this month in Northern California.
SAP Signs On Canadian Bank
Following on the heels of a deal with Bank of America, SAP announced this week that it has signed on another bank to use its enterprise resource planning (ERP) software to run its core systems.
ATB Financial, a bank based in Alberta, Canada, with 660,000 customers, will use SAP's software to replace its existing core banking and back-office systems. advertisement
ATB said it plans to implement banking-specific offerings from SAP for marketing, sales and services, deposits, loans, currency optimization, profitability analysis and accounting. Its goal is to better manage its control and risk management, and reduce the development time to implement new products and services.
Microsoft and EDS Partner on Airline Apps
Microsoft and EDS signed an agreement to partner on developing a service oriented architecture (SOA) -based suite of airline reservation and flight operation applications.
Under an eight-year agreement, EDS will use selected Microsoft tools, software and resources to modernize its suite of airline products. The companies said joint sales and marketing activities will begin immediately and the first technology components will go live this summer. Applications to be developed include airline reservations, flight planning, flight operations and the airline SOA.
