Ingram Micro, the world's largest computer products distributor, announced that it has hired Mario Leone as its new chief information officer.

Leone joins the company from Federal-Mogul Corp. of Southfield, Mich., a supplier of powertrain and other products serving the automotive industry. Prior to Federal-Mogul, Leone served as CIO for automaker Fiat in Italy and has held senior IT positions with Dow Chemical and Union Carbide.

Electronic products distribution is a new field for Leone, but Ingram Micro Chief Executive Greg Spierkel said he believes Leone has the right skills for the task. "He has impressive international experience leading multi-national organizations through periods of growth and change," said Spierkel. "He developed IT strategies, deployed automation initiatives and implemented new programs at some of the world's largest and most recognizable companies."

In his new role Leone will be responsible for Ingram Micro's worldwide information and business systems, supporting hundreds of thousands of transactions a day on five continents. He will report directly to the chief executive and become part of the worldwide executive team.
