Home Depot says eBay CTO Matt Carey will succeed Bob DeRodes; Virgin says IT vet Daniel Acton will now lead its information technology efforts.

Home Depot Hires CIO To Succeed DeRodes
Home Depot has named Matt Carey executive vice president and chief information officer. Carey succeeds Bob DeRodes, considered by many one of the country's top CIOs.
Carey will join the home improvement retailer on September. 8. He will be in charge of the company's information technology, communications, and services and report to Home Depot's CEO Frank Blake.
Carey comes to Home Depot from eBay, where he was CTO. Prior to that, he was CTO at Wal-Mart, where he spent 20 years
"I am thrilled to welcome Matt to The Home Depot," Blake said in a statement. "His functional expertise, coupled with his knowledge of retail, makes him a terrific fit for our company. I am looking forward to the impact Matt will have on our entire organization."
DeRodes said earlier this year that he was looking to step down.
Virgin Mobile USA Names IT Vets As New CIO
Virgin Mobile USA has named IT industry veteran Daniel A. Acton as its new chief information officer.
Acton will oversee the wireless service provider's information technology strategy and operations, focusing "on integrating key business and technology processes," the company said. He'll also be responsible for the company's outsourcing agreement with IBM and its IT integration with Helio, a rival wireless company Virgin Mobile agreed to acquire in June.
"Our information technology capability is of course a crucial part of our ability to deliver quality wireless ser-vice and award-winning customer care," said David Messenger, Virgin Mobile USA's chief administrative and corporate development officer, in a statement. "Dan plays a critical role in ensuring that IT operations and infrastructure functionality are at the optimum level, balancing innovation and costs."
Acton has served in a wide variety of executive management positions at General Electric, Lockheed Martin, Unisys, and Corning. He was most recently a partner in IBM's Global Business Services unit.
