Bob DeRodes, Home Depot's executive vice president and chief information officer—and one of the leading CIOs in the country —has decided to leave the home-improvement products retailer at the end of the year, the company said.
Home Depot did not say why DeRodes, 57, decided to step down and the company could not immediately be reached for comment. DeRodes will continue to oversee its IT operations until his departure. A search for a replacement has begun and DeRodes will be part of the selection process and assist in the transition to new IT leadership, the company said.

"Bob has led a significant IT transformation at The Home Depot, and we thank him for his contributions to our company," said Home Deport chairman and CEO Frank Blake in a statement. "We are pleased he will remain with us through the transition to ensure that our business technology transformation initiatives continue to run smoothly."
DeRodes joined Home Depot in February 2002 from Delta Airlines, where he was also CIO.
His accomplishments at Home Depot, according to the company, include:
- Developing and building the company's current IT infrastructure, which has supported a number of initiatives, including self-checkout and its back-end automated receiving system.
- Leading the successful deployment of SAP Finance, which streamlined the company's financial operation.
- Opening the company's Austin Technology Center, which, the company said, provided needed backup systems and security for its data management infrastructure.
- DeRodes has been ranked among the top CIOs in the country by both Ziff Davis Media and IDG's Computerworld.

In addition to holding the CIO positions at Home Depot and Delta, DeRodes served as a senior technology office at Citibank from 1995 to 1999 and, prior to that, president of Sabre Development Services for the Sabre Group Holdings, the travel-industry technology company.
