Goodyear Hands CIO Controller Duties; Blue Cross Minnesota Names Jay Levine CIO

CIOs seem to be getting handed a wide range of increased responsibilities these days. In the latest announcement, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company of Akron, Ohio, announced that CIO Thomas Connell would take over as corporate controller while retaining his duties as CIO.

Current controller Richard Noechel has been moved into the role of vice president of finance for the company's North American tire business.

The role of controller isn't a stretch for Connell and is, in fact, a resumption of duties. He served as vice president and controller until February of this year, when he was named CIO. The main difference is he now must manage two challenging portfolios.

Blue Cross Minnesota Looks to Financial Services for CIO

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota announced that it has hired Jay Levine, a former chief technology officer for Wolters Kluwer Financial Services, as its new CIO.

At Wolters Kluwer, Levine was responsible for developing compliance and analytic solutions for the banking, mortgage, insurance and securities markets. In his new role, Levine will assume overall technology strategies for Blue Cross, assuring that systems support all product and business strategies.

Pacific Coast Bankers' Bank Taps Wells Fargo

Pacific Coast Bankers' Bank (PCBB), a financial services company based in San Francisco, has hired Eric Davis as its new CIO.

Davis arrives at PCBB from Wells Fargo Bank, where he served in a variety of senior IT roles for 11 years. Most recently he served as CTO of the bank's corporate finance division, responsible for the group's information and reporting systems. Earlier in his career, he worked for Bank of America and Citibank.

In his new role, Davis will oversee all of PCBB's technology operations and infrastructure, and will also serve on the company's management team.
