Workday, a provider of on-demand enterprise resource planning applications, has landed what is believed to be one of the biggest software-as-a-service contracts to date.

The company, which was launched by former PeopleSoft founder Dave Duffield, will provide human capital management services to electronics manufacturer Flextronics. Flextronics will use Workday's hosted applications to replace some 80 disparate human resource systems deployed in 30 countries, serving 200,000 employees.

Workday was started about three years ago by Duffield and is based in Walnut Creek, Calif. The company has had most success to date with its human resource offering, but also has payroll, financial management and procurement offerings.

Gulf operates more than 2,400 service stations primarily in the northeast U.S., and also operates a network of 12 oil terminals.

Gulf will also implement Oracle Project Costing, an application that allows companies to monitor projects against timelines, budgets and performance metrics.

The companies said AdminServer's production line will become a core component of Oracle's existing insurance industry software, currently used by more than 1,000 insurers.

The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2008. Financial details were not disclosed.
