Automotive manufacture Chrysler announced a major shakeup to its management structure, giving current chief information officer Jan Bertsch the added responsibility of heading up treasury operations.

The company said the changes are part of an effort to streamline functions and look for savings.

"As we move forward, we will continue to create organizational efficiencies and maximize the talents of our executive team," Chief Financial Officer Ronald Kolka said in announcing the changes.

Bertsch joined Chrysler in 2001 and was most recently vice president and chief information officer. In 2005 she was named to the Automotive News list of "100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry." Under the new management structure Bertsch will continue to direct the company's systems and computer hardware strategy, applications development, data center operations and telecommunications network, but she will also be responsible for the company's global treasury operations.

Bertsch is a native of Detroit and on her personal blog on the Chrysler Web site talks about her lifelong passion for the industry. "My brother and I were best friends growing up. He taught me how to drive a stick-shift when I was 14 and how to ride a motorcycle," she writes in the blog. "We built go-carts together. When I was in high school, we used to hang out at the drag way . . . so after college, the auto industry seemed like the natural place to work."
