The U.S. Senate has unanimously confirmed Aneesh Chopra as the nation's first federal chief technology officer and an associate director for the White House's Office of Science and Technology Policy. Previously Chopra served as Virginia's secretary for technology.
In his new post Chopra will work closely with federal Chief Information Officer Vivek Kundra on government efficiency and transparency issues, officials said. As chief technology officer, Chopra will promote technological innovation to help the country meet its goals from job creation, to reducing health-care costs, to protecting the homeland.
Prior to serving as Virginia's Secretary of Technology, Chopra worked as managing director for the Advisory Board Company, leading the firm's financial leadership council and the Working Council for Health Plan Executives.
