Citi Hires Away Royal Bank CIO

Financial Services company Citi has raided Royal Bank of Canada to fill its chief information officer position. The New York-based company announced it has hired Marty Lippert, group head of technology for Royal Bank, to serve as CIO, replacing Marvin Adams who moved to Fidelity in December to become president of Fidelity Shared Services.

In a statement, Citi said Lippert will be charged with "driving transformation change across Citi's newly centralized global technology and operations divisions." Lippert will report to Kevin Kessinger, Citi chief operations and technology officer, and will join the Citi Senior Leadership Committee.

"In today's global environment, our competitiveness is dependent on having leading technology and operational capabilities," Vikram Pandit, Citi chief executive said in announcing the hiring. "Marty's appointment emphasizes the importance we place on technology in driving enterprise transformation, and we'll look to him to be a key architect of that change."

In addition to his role at Royal Bank, Lippert spent 16 years at Mellon Bank, serving as executive vice president for information management and research and chief financial officer of technology.

Fidelity Investments Names CIO

More chairs were rotated in the financial services community this week, as Fidelity Investments announced it had hired Daniel Petrozzo, former co-global CIO and head of infrastructure at Morgan Stanley, as its new CIO.

Petrozzo replaces Steve Elterich, who retired from day-to-day responsibilities earlier this year, but continues to act as a consultant to the company. Petrozzo will in turn report to Marvin Adams, president of Fidelity Shared Services.

At Morgan Stanley, Petrozzo managed the firm's IT personnel across all business units and was responsible for overall technology infrastructure. He also served in IT leadership positions at AT&T, StorageApps and Deutsche Bank.

Fidelity also announced it has hired Ronald DePoalo, former managing director and CTO for Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management, to become CIO of the Fidelity Institutional Products Group.

SEC CIO Joins Boston Consulting Group

Corey Booth, the CIO of the Securities and Exchange Commission, has signed on with Boston Consulting Group to become a leader of its financial services practice.

The SEC said Booth completed his service on June 30 and that the commission has engaged Korn/Ferry International to lead a search to find his replacement. The SEC's Office of Information Technology employs more than 600 staff and contractors.
