Dell Perot Systems said Thursday that it has won a five-year, $42 million contract to provide IT services to the U.S. Army’s Rock Island Arsenal in Illinois.
According to Dell Perot, its Fairfax, Va.-based government services business unit will provide command, control, communications, computer and information management services to the base. The new contract extends a four-year relationship that Rock Island Arsenal has had with Perot Systems, which was acquired by Dell in November.
“We’re excited about the Army’s decision to award us with this contract and look forward to continuing to provide the Rock Island Arsenal with the highest quality of service,” said Lee Carrick, VP of the company’s government services unit, in a statement. Rock Island Arsenal, which has been in operation since the middle of the 19th century, is the U.S. government’s biggest weapons manufacturing arsenal.
Dell pointed out that during the span of the previous contract, Perot helped the Illinois base consolidate its Directorate of Information Management (DOIM) centers into a single DOIM, while migrating its networks to the Army’s first Area Processing Center (APC). The APC migration, said Dell, was one the first of its kind and “helped the base improve service delivery as well as strengthen security by reducing entry points.”
Carrick added that the initiative “gave us a firsthand knowledge of the challenges that arise in migrations and how to avoid or resolve those issues during future migrations.”
Dell Perot Systems says that under the new contract, it will continue to provide network operations, desktop services, e-mail, information assurance, telephones, and connectivity to long-haul communications.
In September, Dell announced that it was buying Perot Systems for about $3.9 billion -- the largest acquisition in the company’s history -- in an effort to build up its IT services offerings. Following the deal, Dell formed a new business unit, Dell Services, which has more than 41,000 technology and business services personnel.
