Methodology: Top 50 Communications Companies
By Robert Hertzberg
CIOZone's Communications 50 looks at the revenue and profit of the largest publicly traded U.S. communications companies for the 12-month period ended March 31, 2008. The few non-U.S. based companies we've included (such as Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent) either have such big U.S. customer bases or such ubiquitous brands that we felt it would be a mistake to omit them.
The list is tilted toward companies that get a substantial portion of their revenues from enterprises. That is why we have left out cable companies; cable companies' primary customers are consumers. advertisement
The numbers in our ranking are based on public filings.
We used a cut-off of May 21 for our data-gathering, meaning if a company reported results after that, those results aren't reflected in the list published here.
