Chief executive officers are facing unprecedented challenges in dealing with the current recession. That, in turn, is putting pressure on chief information officers who must support and help their CEOs navigate the troubled waters.


In a new report, research firm Gartner identifies the most pressing challenges now facing CEOs and predicts that in 6 to 18 months, those challenges will land in the lap of CIOs.


"The tumultuous events of the past 12 months have shocked the world," says Mark Raskino, vice president and Gartner fellow. "CEOs are confronting reduced revenues and profits and need to restructure their businesses accordingly.


"As a consequence, CIOs should plan for extraordinary requests in 2009 for work and changes."
