A survey of more than 3,000 hiring managers conducted by The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and CareerBuilder.com, reveals that technology jobs are most at risk to offshoring, particularly as the economy is plagued by uncertainty.
"We're seeing a systematic pattern in the types of positions that are vulnerable to offshoring," said Lorin Hitt, associate professor in information management at the Wharton School. "The study indicates that services that can be delivered electronically and don't require much face-to-face interaction are now at higher risk of being displaced."
According to those respondents who currently offshore, the following are the positions most likely to be sent overseas: Computer programmers (32%), software developers (32%), customer service (25%), systems analysts (16%), sales managers (8%), and graphic designers (8%).
