Smart Approach to Launching a Business Online
Share This -
At some point in their careers, most technology professionals will nurse an idea that they hope to one day turn into a viable business.
At CIOZone, our own Chief Technology Officer Bill Gerneglia has had considerable experience in doing just that: taking an online business venture from the idea stage, through to the prototype and eventual launch. In addition to being a member of the founding team at CIOZone, Gerneglia was also CTO at About.com and launched a golf-oriented online advertising network.
Gerneglia was recently contacted by a writer with the Internet Broadcasting Service for his insights on how to launch an online business, particularly in this difficult environment. Among Gerneglia’s recommendations: get your Web business live early without too much expensive development and make continuous improvements along the way.
“The biggest mistake I see most start-ups and individuals make is spending way too much money on custom development of their Web site,” he says. “They believe the site needs numerous features to support their product or service when, in fact, you can start with a basic few.”
The full text of the article can be read here. But we invite CIOZone members to pose any questions they might have on launching a business online directly to Bill through the comments section below.

Can you please provide an example of how one would start their on-line direct marketing initiative?
Thanks

Sure E.g. if you are say an exterminator, you should write and publish an e-book about spring termite infestations and how to stop them. Offer the book for free to your site visitor in exchange for an email address.
Once you have the email address, place it into an autoresponder ( an automated email message manager ) and start the sales or up-sell process.
Craft a series of messages and send them out periodically offering more information about seasonal pest control and plug your product or service along the way.
You can do this in the form of a newsletter or a series of simple messages. Keep the message lite in terms of graphics.
