According to a story published by the Washington Post today, researchers at Carnegie Mellon University have found that your social security number could be determined just by knowing when and in what zip code you were born in.

It’s a scary thought indeed Mike. The bottom line though is that this is one more reason why a person’s social security number shouldn’t be used as a personal identifier. They were never meant to be used for that purpose, so it’s not surprising that in a computer age they can be compromised.
