How could today’s financial news – Lehman’s bankruptcy filing, BofA’s takeover of Merrill Lynch – affect CIOs?

Larry Dignan at ZDNet posted a blog in which he sees the following impact on information technology:

- There will be a pullback in overall financial IT spending. Because of failures and mergers, he says, there’s “a lot of spending on data centers, telecommunications, software and servers either being consolidated or going away.”

- There will be a number of long-term integrations projects because of M&As. Likewise, there will be data center and applications consolidation. Project managers will be in demand.

- There will be more financial IT types in the job market, which may depress staff wages – but also be a boon to CIOs looking for talent.

Dignan offers a few more thoughts. You can read his column here.
