Cloud computing has gone officially mainstream, with this New York Times  article.

And as one who’s always scratched his head over the meaning of the term, I found the definition that the article supplied (“in which vast stores of information and processing resources can be tapped from afar, over the Internet, using a personal computer, cell phone or other device”) quite helpful.

The thing is, given the concern among corporate users over data security and the like that the writer cites, I can’t help but wonder if IBM’s solution, to tailor the cloud for individual companies, doesn’t undermine the benefits. After all, is a “bespoke” cloud, to borrow the Times’ term, still a cloud?

In the end, I suppose it all comes down to pricing.
