This article raises some interesting issues for CIOZone members. The relevant if obvious point is that Apple’s foray into corporate computing wouldn’t depend so heavily on a big switch to its new operating system, Snow Leopard, if companies allowed devices onto their networks that individuals purchased without approval from the IT department.

But it seems to me that raises a number of questions. For starters, would the security systems that companies have in place be able to handle non-approved devices? And wouldn’t such devices pose issues for the integration of data? Companies have spent loads of time and money on ERP systems that give top management access to all key performance data, so I can’t help but wonder whether data from outside devices would undermine that objective.

Since I don’t know the answers to these questions, I’ve started a forum thread to get them.
