US Oncology last week announced the appointment of Karen Gibson as senior vice president and CIO. Gibson’s career has included serving as CIO for Life Technologies and for GE Healthcare Information Technologies, a division of GE that provides medical device and healthcare IT products, according to US Oncology officials. She will be tasked with providing oncologists with proven technology to enhance patient care and business processes.
“Building a robust information technology platform at US Oncology requires strong IT leadership across a broad spectrum of healthcare,” said Asif Ahmad, executive vice president of technology services with US Oncology, in a prepared statement. “Karen has the right blend of leadership experience and an extensive technical background to move our IT initiatives forward.”
Based in The Woodlands, Texas, US Oncology is an integrated oncology company encompassing community-based cancer treatment and a research network. The company is affiliated with 1,400 community-based oncologists.
