Contact lens manufacturer Menicon Company Ltd. of Japan announced earlier this month the appointment of Steven Newman as CTO. Newman joined Menicon when it acquired the ClearLab Flat pack technology from a company called 1-800 Contacts in June of 2007, and has been working on developing production lines to introduce Menicon One Day Flat Pack products early next year, according to company officials. In his new post, Newman will add product planning, brand strategy, packaging strategy, and manufacturing strategy to his responsibilities.

We are very happy to welcome Mr. Newman to his new role at this time, which coincides with two important milestones for our company: the celebration of Menicon's 60th year in business, and the launch of the most innovative contact lens packaging ever developed,” said Hidenari Tanaka, president of Menicon, in a prepared statement. “We look forward to his further contributions to Menicon's success now and in the years ahead.
