In every profession -- especially one as dynamic as IT management -- practitioners constantly need to add new management skills, track what their peers and competitors are up to and keep abreast of new trends and developments they can use to drive business growth. Professional networks such as CIOZone.com serve as a means of achieving these goals, as do venues sponsored by CIO-based organizations such as the Society for Information Management.
Other programs, many of them Web-based, are also targeted at IT professionals who typically are short on time and likely may not have the scheduling flexibility to attend, say, a traditional business school course.
