AeroVironment (AV) has named its first-ever CTO, John Grabowsky, who will be responsible for technology development for AV's unmanned aircraft systems (UASes) and efficient energy systems. Previously, Grabowsky served as the company's executive vice president and general manager of the UAS division. Grabowsky joined the company in 2003.
"John's contributions to AV have been numerous and significant and as AV's first chief technology officer he will apply his deep technical background across both our business segments, which will enhance AV's leadership and benefit all our customers," said Tim Conver, chairman and chief executive officer of AV, in a statement.
The U.S. Defense Department, as well as other allied military services, use AV's battery-powered, hand-launched UASes in their tactical operation units. The company's clean transportation products include power cycling and test systems and industrial electric vehicle charging systems that it supplies to commercial and institutional customers. Based in Monrovia, Calif., AV also makes home chargers for the consumer market.
