Salesforce.com to Build First Offshore Data Center
Salesforce.com, which provides on-demand customer relationship management software, announced that it will build its first offshore data center in Singapore to serve a growing international customer base. The data center is expected to go live before the end of the year.
In addition to the data center, San Francisco-based Salesforce.com said it will also establish a network operations center (NOC) in Singapore to provide 24-hour monitoring of the company's data centers in North America and Singapore.
Mervyns to Launch E-Commerce Site advertisement
It may be a little late to the party, but department store retailer Mervyns says it will launch a fully integrated e-commerce Web site in the fourth quarter of 2008.
The initiative is part of a strategic plan launched by new chief executive John Goodman, who joined the San Francisco-based retailer in April. Goodman left Levi Strauss & Co., where he was president of the Dockers brand, to take on the helm at Mervyns.
The company said it believes the e-commerce could quickly grow to represent a $50 million business. Mervyns will partner with a "nationally recognized provider of turnkey order entry and fulfillment services" to launch the site. It did not name the partner.
Longs Drugs and CVS Partner With Google Health
Longs Drugs Stores and CVS Caremark will partner with search giant Google to provide a platform for sharing information between patients and health providers.
The companies announced joint ventures this week under which the drug stores' customers will be able to import their prescription information into Google Health. Customers will then be able to share that information with healthcare providers and doctors to better coordinate their care.
Google Health is a new venture for the search company, allowing users to store, organize and manage their personal health information online.

Bank of Ireland Chooses Business Objects
Business Objects has won a deal to become the business intelligence standard for the Bank of Ireland.
SAP acquired Business Objects in the fall of 2007 with the aim of leveraging its customer base to sell business intelligence software. Bank of Ireland is a long-time SAP customer.
The bank says it will use the business objects platform to more easily access, analyze and distribute information through the company and more quickly respond to market events.
Moody's Signs Six-Year Pact With Perot
Perot Systems has signed a six-year pact with Moody's Corporation to provide infrastructure services.
Financial terms of the deal were not released, but Moody's CIO Perry Rotella said in a statement that the deal will allow Moody's to achieve a new level of efficiency to support the company's planned growth. New York City-based Moody's provides credit ratings, research and analysis of securities.
