Outsourcing Market Growing, But Strategies Still Immature

| The global outsourcing market will grow at a brisk 8.1% this year, predicts Gartner. Yet, the research house notes, many organizations' IT sourcing strategies and governance structures are, it says, "immature, lacking altogether, or misaligned with enterprise objectives."
Which is a good reason so many IT shops express disappointment with their outsourcing arrangements and why more than a few reverse their decisions and bring their IT back in house after a couple of years.
"Because these organizations lack the basic building blocks for successful vendor management and outsourcing success, expected cost savings and other benefits are difficult to obtain," said Kurt Potter, a research director, in a statement that was released with the new numbers. "In extreme cases, the lack of needed trust and control to optimize the outsourcing relationship results in deal failure."
