The PMO is running meetings, asking why time frames are being missed and transferring the results using SDLC methods onto documents of Web sphere, Excel, MSproject, Req Pro and so on.The PMO works with upper management and then the budget comes in for business users. The business users or clients want a new toy. Then the business requirement is created.
The PMO ends up in the spot of providinga solution and resource need. In all fairness for today’s PMO is this in their realm?
The 1970’s Project Manager. Old school. The IT PM was the computer operator who taught them self to be a programmer. Then they gained knowledge from every business user who wanted to use the computer. In 1980 it was the same person except now that person gained access to new software tools such as word processors, Lotus and IT specialized management courses. In 1990’s the SDLC requirements training was pushing full force.
When the business requested new technology, the project manager understood what the requirements, skill set and budget were.
There are many pieces that will be discussed. Next Blog, lets first look at how the new IT PMO goes about gathering the Technology partners required to create a Technological solution for the Business requirement.
