| A new week. A new data breach.
Advance Auto Parts, a car parts retailer, said yesterday that it was the victim of a network intrusion and that an internal investigation found that the financial data of up to 56,000 customers might have been compromised.
The company did not detail the security breach, but said it believed the incident was contained and that it was working with “appropriate law enforcement officials who are conducting a criminal investigation.” More information is available on the company’s Web site.
The company has notified its credit, debit, and check processors and has started sending letters to customer who it thinks might be affected.
“Safeguarding our customers’ confidential financial information is extremely important to Advance Auto Parts, and we take this responsibility very seriously,” said Darren Jackson, the company’s president and chief executive officer, in a prepared statement.
