Innovation (really)
|
| Written by Brian Flagg |
I am frequently amused by organizations and even entire companies that are stuck in the 'program' rut. Innovation is all to often treated in this manner; as a program. No sure fire way exists to stifle innovation, or indeed any creative thinking, than by christening a program. Innovation is not something you do, it is something that happens, typically as a result of applying pressure to an existing process or organization. The job of the executive is to create enough tension in the organization that innovation becomes necessary to foster relief of the tension.
So, instead of thinking 'how do we foster innovation in the organization', think 'how can create enough tension so that the organization, through innovation, rallies to improve'.
More on this in a later blog.
