About the Program:


Nationwide there is an increasing demand for skilled and experienced professionals who can manage the development and deployment of technology across a broad spectrum of industries and who can leverage technology to improve core business performance.


Columbia's program in Technology Management, offered by the School of Continuing Education, targets mid-career technical professionals who need to deepen their understanding of business and management in order to enhance their performance as technology managers. The curriculum approaches technology from a business perspective, emphasizing the strategic issues that confront senior executives today. The multidisciplinary faculty is composed of industry leaders.


The program is designed for working technology professionals. Students discuss current workplace challenges in the classroom, creating opportunities to share insights and solve problems among peers. This hands-on approach is further enhanced by the active participation of senior executives who serve as mentors.

About Art Langer

Arthur Langer is associate director for instructor and curricular development of IT Programs at Columbia's School of Continuing Education helps run the Programs in Technology at Columbia University's School of Continuing Education. Langer consults with corporations on information technology, staff development, and management transformation in the United States and Europe. He is the author of Applied E-Commerce (Wiley, 2002), Analysis and Design of Information Systems (Springer-Verlag, 2001), and The Art of Analysis (Springer-Verlag, 1997). His research involves the study of adult education, mentoring, intellectual development, and learning transformation theory; distance education; and the design of technology-based curricula. He holds a B.A. in computer science, an M.B.A. in accounting and finance, and an Ed.D. in higher education.
